Ms. Ball, Glad to see you back on your blog. I've been checking periodically just because I appreciate how you express your thoughts.
Most of our problems when we started to think that "Hate Speech" was something special and we needed to "do something" to keep it from occurring. Of course, those who pushed for the legislation did not define "Hate Speech" in any precision so that it becomes subject to the opinion of the "offended" as to whether some particular screed was "hateful" or not. Combine that with the fact that most of the "conservative" crowd tend to deal with reality rather than complain about it you end up with all of the folsk that are natural complainers being the ones who get to say what hate speech is.

You're absolutely right about "Hate Speech." That was always just a door for censorship to sneak through.
DeleteOne of my "nice" liberal friends cannot understand my objection to "Hate Speech" laws. I say: "Who decides what Hate Speech is?"
And she replies, "But I have never called you racist."
Severely missing the point there.
